TEACHING IN JAPAN AS AN ASSISTANT LANGUAGE TEACHER |
| |
Most people who come to Japan to teach as ALTs have the goal of learning the Japanese language in their minds. This is because ALTs interact with the Japanese teachers and students everyday and they become part of the community. They are invited to join school and community events. With this, they learn the culture and practices of Japanese people in real life. ALTs are even invited to different homes for birthdays and special events. |
 |
| |
This typically happens in the countrysides where the people are very accommodating to foreigners. On the other hand, ALTs also get attached to their respective communities, decide to stay there for a longer time and even have a hard time leaving. |

The ALT`s job is basically designed to help in the internationalization of Japanfs younger generation. The job gives a chance for both the ALT and the children to learn from each other. Elementary and Junior high school students have very minimal English language capability, so ALTs are somewhat forced to learn Japanese. And in the end this usually works for the ALTs advantage. They learn Japanese while teaching and earning money. This is one of the best ways to learn Japanese and eventually start a new career in Japan. |
