LIVING IN JAPAN : PUBLIC AND PRIVATE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION |
| |
|
| |
When we think of public transportation, the first thing that comes in mind is a bus or taxi. In Japan, with the large number of trains going to different places, it is the most common form of transportation especially in the urban areas like Tokyo. People traveling to far places prefer taking the train because of lesser traffic. |

Though taking the train is the first choice for most people, buses are also available for places where trains arenft available. Most bus terminals are found beside the train stations and also follow a certain schedule. Also, taxis are usually lined up in every train station waiting for people coming from trains that stop-by. |

The bicycle is also a very common type of transportation here in Japan. The sidewalks and roadsides are very safe for bicycle riders. So if the place youfre going isnft that far and the weatherfs fine, riding a bicycle would be advisable. From junior high school to college students, from teenagers to old people in their 60fs, itfs still one of the best choices when traveling short distances. You will actually see lots of people wearing suits and formal office attires riding a bicycle going to the office. Plus, Japanese people are very conscious with their health so this is also a great way to stay in shape. |
