LIVING IN JAPAN : THE JAPANESE SALARY SYSTEM |
| |
|
| |
Most foreigners find the salary system followed by Japan hard to deal with. Waiting for your first paycheck to arrive could take a long time. Especially if your budget is running low and the salary day is still a few weeks away. A major number of employees working in Japan receive their salaries a month after. In other words, the salary for the work youfve done in June will be paid towards the later half of July. In most companies, they pay their employees every 20th of each month. |

This system can really be a headache and somewhat depressing for foreigners who really spent a lot of money looking for a job, a place to stay and moving to Japan. Just imagine paying for your plane ticket, transportation to and from the place you work and the apartment, where you have to give at least a one-month deposit, key money and for some service fee. All these could add up to a depressing start for foreigners. Surviving the first months of being away from home and waiting for the salary to come is really hard but thatfs how the system works. |

Receiving the first paycheck would certainly make you happy. But donft forget the fact that you also have to pay the services you used in the previous month. Plus you also have to set aside some money for other things youfll have to pay before the next paycheck arrives in a month. So there isnft really much you can do in the first 2 to 3 months but to save and save. |

But the reason why a lot of foreigners still come to Japan despite the huge cost of moving is that everybody knows that starting something is the hardest thing to do. A majority of foreigners who come here have a pretty rough start but when 3 months or 4 months have passed, they feel at home. It's like the hardest thing for a lot of foreigners is the settling down part. Then all the things that come after it, as many would say, "It's all good"! |
